1. Completely disassemble the transmission.
Thouroughly clean and inspect all internal and external
parts including case and housing.
2. Disassemble the valve body and thouroughly inspect
all components. Install new gaskets and replace defective
parts.
3. Replace all friction clutch plates with new
friction clutch plates. All paper- or fabric-lined
friction clutch plates must be presoaked in A.T.F. for no
lees than 20 minutes prior to installation.
4. Process flat-type steel clutch plates by removing
the finished surface caused by normal friction contact.
(Processing shall mean to refinish each plate with 120 -
180 grit emery cloth until the sanding marks are visible
on both sides.)
5. Replace concave, dished or wavy steel clutch
plates with new plates.
6. Install new or relined bands that meet OEM
specifications. All paper- or fabric-lined bands must be
presoaked in A.T.F. for at least 20 minutes prior to
installation.
7. Install new diaphram-type clutch piston return
springs if transmission is so equipped.

with new seals, metal sealing rings and gaskets.
9. Replace all external seal support bushings except
those finished (molded) in place with new seal support
bushings.
10. Replace filter element with a new element meeting
or exceeding OEM specifications.
11. Install new modulator or new diaphram and springs
if transmission is so equipped.
12. All drum surfaces (where a band rides) must be
resurfaced as follows:
Paper-lined bands: sand using 100 - 180
gritemery cloth. Sand around the drum, not
front-to-back.
Fabric-lined bands: sand using 40 - 60 grit
emery cloth. Sand front-to-back, not around.
13. Measure all clearances and tolerances and make
adjustments to OEM specifications.
14. Use new automatic transmission fluid.
15. The torque converter must be replaced if any one
of the following exists:
Metal particles or an excessive accumulation
of any foreign material.
Any scoring, burring or wear on the hub.
Any internal wear exceeding OEM
specifications (can only be determined by the use
of an end play gauge).
If none of the above exists, the torque converter
must be flushed with a high-pressure Vortex
flusher.
If facility is not equipped with a
torque converter flusher, then the torque converter
must be replaced with a rebuilt torque converter.
The above constitutes Service Grade I requirements.
Additional parts may have to be replaced based upon
specific damage. If additional parts are required, note
